January 24, 2023
The State of Maine requires dogs to be licensed at 6 months of age or within 10 days of ownership. You must show evidence of current rabies vaccination at the time of registration (yearly) and a spay/neuter certificate, if applicable. Fees are $6 for spayed/neutered dogs and $11 for unspayed/neutered dogs.
Renewal for dog licensing is no later than December 31 of each year.
A late fee of $25 per dog (in addition to the license fee) will be applied after January 31st.
The dog license fee supports:
- Local Animal Control Officers and State Humane Agents, Investigation of animal cruelty complaints and enforcement of animal welfare laws.
- Compliance with rabies vaccination of dogs.
- Care for sick and injured stray animals.
- Return of lost dogs to their owners
Registrations & Renewals are done in person at the Town Office or online at https://apps1.web.maine.gov/cgi-bin/online/dog_license/index.pl. An additional fee is assessed if licensing is done online.
